Building Green

Habitat for Humanity of Athens/Limestone County, AL is very proud of its efforts and best practices using a holistic approach to building an energy efficient and sustainable home for the homeowner, the community, and the environment.

the Home Depot Foundation Sustainable Building Program provided financial support towards our 2009-2011 LEED Platinum and Gold certifications.

Our first LEED certified homes (3 of them) received a certification level of Gold, our next 2 received a certification level of Platinum. We hope to keep improving!

We are also participating in HabitatPro (EverBuild), a program where green building professionals get credit for working on a LEED project so they can qualify to take the credentialling exam from the US Green Building Council. Read about this here.
